About This Title

Two female gumshoes join forces when the original Ruby returns to assist Ruby 2 to sleuth out who has been “windowing” the peaceful, zen-like Bulldada.

Strange “windows” appear in the minds of the Bulldada. Is it an alien presence that is using the Bulldada’s eyes as windows? Is it an insidious device controlled by the electronic media, another way to manipulate the malleable minds of the gullible consumers? The story winds its way through the narrow, dusty streets of Kismet, the Nomadic city, to the fierce desert known as the Great Boosbooszees, to the Ossirian Islands and the delicate glass palaces of the Bulldada.

Filled with bizarre characters and absurd situations, RUBY 2 is like an audio comic strip. It’s definitely the zaniest and funniest of all the Rubys.

Will Ruby defeat the detractors of the truth and protect the perspectives of the credulous consumers, or desiccate in the dreadful desert of the Great Boosbooszees?

On my first listen I was anxious at the absence of the original Ruby (she’s replaced by an Angel initially, but does appear later) and annoyed by the kablammo of media stimulation (that damn digital dentist! “bees in my teeth” indeed). However, this is a tale that must not be listened to for it’s linear ingtegity—it has very little in the way of plot (having learned that it was composed on the fly under stressful circumstances, I can see why).

On my second, third, and fourth listens, I had a lot more fun and found each time something new to revel in. Ruby two is where the characters Kapoor, Mother Kapoor, Teru, and And/Or come into their own. There are some bits that are so funny and true you can hardly stand it, and it is also eeerily prophetic.

It might work best through headphones, because there are parts where more than one thing is happening and the mind can’t decide which to follow—this can be frustrating, but it matters to the story that you have that experience.

Listen to this story without any demands on it to make sense, and it will, in fact, make a lot of sense. Very bulldada.

It’s All Bulldada! If Summa Nulla is the high point of nothingness, this episode is the low point of nothingness. Let’s see: no plot, sophomoric (or lower) humor, carping on how the media is creating mindless consumerism, blah, blah. I’ve always wanted to get my money back, but I guess Lopez/Fulton needs it more than I do. At least the pathetic Android Sisters didn’t make it from Ruby 1. The original Ruby finally makes it into the story halfway through after the listener has to deal with Ruby 2, a lesser Ruby altogether. But, Laura Esterman can’t rescue this stinker. Ouch.
